AFTERNOON STORM

Journal Entry From 05/2023:

A sunny afternoon grew cold and dark. Nearby storms threatened us from a distance. Thunderheads rolled and clapped, boasting its might. Being blasted by wind it seemed sure it would be over our heads in minutes. Keeping a watchful eye on the storm, our pursuit up the ridge persisted while being chased by chilled air and light, speckling rain.

Amongst the barren, shale slopes were spring flowers who were probably all too familiar with the wrath these storms can bring. Yet there they are, confidently rooted in beauty and growing in contagious peace. It’s no place for humankind but one feels all too welcomed by the flower painted slopes.

We reached our terminal point and wasted no time to admire the views that encircled us. Though still brewing in the distance, the storm seemed mostly staved off from the mountains that stood between. With the pressures of time and the falling sun at hand, we were urged to take the journey down. As we navigated down, the clouds parted and the evening sun highlighted the shale slopes we had previously ascended.
